Before you scan down to the bottom to see the response to The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?, let me introduce you to one of our makers coming to The Mom & Pop Shoppe on Saturday, April 25th. This is another in a series of Vendor Spotlights where we let those who will be sharing their wares shine a light on what it is they do. The following profile is Jessica from theBird+theBeard and her response to a mini-questionnaire.
1) What's your name and what is it that you make?
My name is Jessica Schaefer, of theBird+theBeard, and I make geeky greeting cards with my husband Karl, the majority of which are based on the Periodic Table of the Elements, Binary Code, and the BASIC computer programming language.
2) How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
I have always loved the printed word, and studied graphic design and printmaking at Edinboro University.
3) What is your best seller?
It seems like every Valentine's Day we get one card that blows all of the others out of the water, like Back That Ass Up, Sexy Motherf*cker, etc. Overall, birthday cards and thank you cards are always strong sellers. What really surprises me is how well our Tupac Dear Mama Mother's Day card sells year round.
4) How long have you been vending? Have you done the Mom & Pop Shoppe before?
We have been in business for about two and a half years, and vending for one. This is our first time doing the Mom & Pop Shoppe. Actually, this is our first time doing a CraftyMart show, or any show outside of our home base of Pittsburgh.
5) The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?
That is a question I was just thinking about recently! My default answer has always been The Beatles. They were my mother's favorite band and I was raised with them, so there's a lot of nostalgia tied to their music and mythology. But, I've come to realize, my musical taste is definitely the Rolling Stones. Their music exudes sex appeal, and even in his advanced age, so does Mick Jagger.
Thank you Jessica for answering our questions and coming to Crafty Mart's Mom & Pop Shoppe. We'll see everyone on Saturday, April 25th, from 10am-5pm at Musica, Akron Art Museum, and Summit Artspace. You'll be able to locate theBird+theBeard at Summit Art Space. Click HERE for a complete listing of all the vendors and where each one will be located.
