Crafty Mart is pleased to be offering four workshop experiences during the Mom & Pop Shoppe event on Saturday, April 25th. There are a limited amount of spaces available for each workshop so make sure to sign up early. For more information on all the workshops, please click HERE.
To help you get to know the workshop instructors a little better, we've asked them to respond to FIVE QUESTIONS.
Melissa from Yates Apothecary is teaching a workshop on Sugar Scrubs, 2:30-4pm at the Akron Art Museum.
1) Please describe how you see your place in Northeast Ohio's creative community.
Yates Apothecary is a tiny and mighty perfume house in the heart of downtown Cleveland. Client connections happen on many levels: events, open houses, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I don't have a store front with traditional business hours, but my studio is open by appointment..and phone calls are always welcomed. Or we could chat over coffee at a local coffee house...that would be awesome.
2) How did you acquire the skill(s) you're passing on in the workshop?
The art of perfumery is self taught, however the chemistry aspect of my brain comes from my prior career as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. I feel right at home surrounded by glass beakers, graduated cylinders, steam distillation set, scales, and pipettes.
3) What do you hope people will get out of your workshop experience?
Perfumes, sugar scrubs, lotions, and many other beauty products are mostly over priced and full of chemicals. I want to give people the knowledge of how to create these products in your home, minus chemicals, and affordable.
4) What motivates you to be creative?
Nature. Color. Smell
5) The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
-Beatles (The White Album)
