We are so pumped about our biggest, raddest event of the year! So much so that we put together this list of 7 ways to take full advantage of The 7th Annual Crafty Mart! (See what we did there?)
The Akron Art Museum is offering FREE admission both Saturday and Sunday just for Crafty Mart weekend! While you're doing your shopping, make sure to stop in the galleries. Neo Geo just opened, which is an engaging experience for both adults and young people no matter what their Art Education background is featuring some remarkable local talent.
If you get a punch from each location on the back of your program (see below) and turn it in at our Raffle Table on the 3rd floor of Summit Artspace before you leave, you will get a chance to win one of 25+ gift baskets from our amazing venues plus other local establishments!
2. GIVE BACK.
Buy a ceramic bowl handcrafted by an Akron Public Schools student from Empty Bowls Akron, and that money will go directly to help the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. They will be set up at Musica. Check out our blog post from last year to learn more!
While we're talking about giving back, did you see our shopping guide for the environmentally and socially conscious loved ones? We love all our vendors, but we're particularly blown away by those who make cool stuff and manage to support a greater cause while doing it.
3. MAKE SOMETHING.
In the DIY spirit of Crafty Mart, why not make a holiday gift for a loved one? If you aren't already signed up to take a workshop, there are a few still available, including screenprinting basics from Rubber City Prints. Click here to see all the classes still available!
Have you been following our vendor spotlight posts on our blog? You can browse through them here.
And here is a complete list of our vendors and which venue you can find them in so that you can make your list.
And if you show up early, the first 25 shoppers at each venue on both Saturday and Sunday will receive a canvas Small Business Saturday shopping bag courtesy of American Express full of coupons and swag from local businesses!
Urban Eats at Musica will be serving up their famous pizzas and wraps all throughout the event! The bar at Musica will be open at 11:30 am both days and they will featuring root beer floats (with or without booze!)
At the Akron Art Museum, the Q Cafe will be open both days! They serve snacks, sandwiches, coffee, and a fine selection of local craft beers on draft.
At Summit Artspace, the Western Fruit Basket will be set up on the 3rd floor selling gyros, spanakopita and other delicious Mediterranean fare. Up there we will also be selling wine, craft beer, and our signature crafty drink for the event, the NORKA Mule: vodka, homemade ginger simple syrup and NORKA soda-- YUM!
6. MAKE A DAY OF IT!
There is free parking at the library deck, so why not park there for the whole day and enjoy our beautiful downtown? The City of Akron will be running a trolley that can take you to all the Crafty Mart venues and to the Northside to check out other small business, like Zeber Martell Gallery.
If you need a break from shopping, go see a film! Right in the Crafty Mart footprint is Akron's only indie cinema, The Nightlight. They are located on High Street, just two doors down from We Gallery and this weekend they are totally playing one of our favorite cult classics, Monty Python and the Holy Grail! To see showtimes, click here. There's only 50 seats in the theater, so you might want to buy tickets ahead of time!
Stay for a show! Downtown Akron is a great place to see live music. Saturday night, head over to Jilly's Music Room just over in the Northside District to see Mo' Mojo, a female fronted group that blends Americana and Zydeco.
On Sunday, the Joe Augustine Trio will be swinging at Blu Jazz+.
7. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE GIFT WRAPPING.
On Saturday and Sunday, Yelp will be set up on the 3rd floor of Summit Artspace offering FREE gift wrapping for your newly acquired gifts! It seriously doesn't get any easier than this.
We can't wait to see everyone this weekend! For more information, check out our Facebook event and make sure to RSVP!
