We're excited to bring you another in a series of profiles to introduce you to a few of our artisans coming to the 7th Annual Crafty Mart Holiday Show on Saturday and Sunday, November 28th-29th. This is just one in a series of Vendor Spotlights where we let those who will be sharing their wares shine a light on what it is they do. The following profile is Jen from Jen Townsend Jewelry and her response to a mini-questionnaire.
1). What's your name and what is it that you make?
Hello! I'm Jen Townsend and I'm a jewelry artist working out of downtown Columbus, Ohio. My studio is located inside The Smithery, an artist made shop and jewelry studio I co-own with another Columbus artist, Anne Holman. My work is full of fun pops of color and organic shapes that I create with layers of kiln fired enamel and traditional metalsmithing techniques. Each piece is designed and carefully made by hand using saws, files, hammers, kilns, and torches (to name just a few tools).
2). How did you acquire the unique skill set to do what it is you do?
Originally trained as a painter, I developed a love for color early on and soon after taking a jewelry class halfway through college, I began experimenting with combining color and metal. I discovered kiln fired enamel as the perfect way to showcase the bold pattern and color that inspires my work and established my brand, Jen Townsend Jewelry, in 2010.
3). What is your best seller?
My best sellers are in my Pebble Collection. The pebble studs, earrings, and necklaces sell very well because they are a great way to add just a little pop of color to your life. They also sell very well for gifts as they compliment a lot of different styles. Many of my customers love them so much, they keep buying them in different colors!
4). How long have you been vending? Have you done a Crafty Mart show before?
I started selling my work at the art sales at my school, Columbus College of Art & Design, in 2008 and after graduating in 2010, I began vending at various events across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. I have participated in a spring Crafty Mart before and after hearing how much fun the holiday shows are, I had to apply!
5). Coffee or tea?
Iced tea all day everyday!
Thank you for answering our questions Jen. Thanks for coming to the 7th Annual Crafty Mart Holiday Show too. We'll see everyone on Sat. & Sun. Nov. 28th-29th at Musica, Akron Art Museum, and Summit Artspace. You'll be able to find Jen Townsend Jewelry at the Akron Art Museum.
